{"id":235,"date":"2022-09-21T13:08:56","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T13:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ross-tech.co.uk\/blog\/?p=235"},"modified":"2023-03-03T09:28:09","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T09:28:09","slug":"stress-analysis-and-generative-design-of-bicycle-stem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ross-tech.co.uk\/blog\/stress-analysis-and-generative-design-of-bicycle-stem\/","title":{"rendered":"Generative Design of Bicycle Stem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It&#8217;s not often that we can (are allowed to) share with you some of the clever things we get up to.<br>We have a contract to do some design work on a Bicycle Stem (bit connecting the handlebars to the bike).<br>First we did a stress analysis of a generic stem (copy of the one on my bike)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"888\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1568 \/ 888;\" width=\"1568\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.ross-tech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/StemSim-HeadStock-Clamp-Joined4.webm\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then we let our Generative Design software have a go at creating a solution, after many runs and tweaks  we finally got something we though was good. It&#8217;s in the same material as the generic one but it&#8217;s weight is 58g compared with the 156g of the original.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"888\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1568 \/ 888;\" width=\"1568\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.ross-tech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/StemSimS-GenTst2.webm\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see from the two videos that both models perform well, however more of the generative design is working at higher levels of stress.
